Timing Matters. A lot.
People change their behavior when they’re ready—when they decide it’s time, for their own reasons. Lasting behavior change only occurs when someone is both prepared and willing. That’s a lesson I learned early in the change business
“I want to change” often sounds genuine. But wanting isn’t the same as being ready.
When someone isn’t quite there yet, I don’t push. Instead, I describe a possible change scenario and say: ”If and when you can picture yourself here, then we’re ready to go to work.”
That moment—when they can see themselves differently—is timing showing up.
Behavior change isn’t about pressure or persuasion.
It’s about respecting people, their time, and the moment they’re truly ready.
